      Description

      When on marketplace I clicked view item in secondlife and a new window opened which I clicked Teleport there now. At that time a new window opened up to start a new session of the firestorm viewer. This was confirmed as well by Eressea Karsin. I downloaded and installed SLURL Proxy http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=slurl_proxy and still this happened again confirmed by Eressea.

          I couldnt reproduce this. Ive never had SLURL fail in FS & I TP to places from marketplace SLURLS pretty often.

          Testing with the link that failed for Patty, https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Meeroo-Pen/2407938

          From that page, click on " See item in second life"
          The page http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sand%20Point/128/128/24 will open. Click Teleport now.
          I then have the place profile open up in my running instance of FS & can TP there.

          Tested on Firefox 6.0

          To add further strangeness...

          1.) I re-installed 2.5.3 with raw settings files, and 2.5.3 worked correctly.
          2.) I re-installed 2.6.1 with raw settings files, and it didn't open a new session, but it did send me to an SLURL without providing the info in the Places Panel first.
          3.) I swapped my saved settings files back in for 3.0.1 (I did not re-install), and now 3.0.1 works correctly.

          After upgrading to Firestorm 3.0.1 (22392) Aug 31 2011 03:34:32 (Firestorm-Private), it would not open at all. Selecting it as the direct default in SLURL Proxy caused the open-new-session behavior to return.

          I then re-installed 2.5.3 (16903) over top of itself, let it start once, but did not log in. I closed 2.5.3, logged in with 3.0.1 (22392) and the SLURLs worked correctly. I did NOT change anything via SLURL Proxy after re-installing 2.5.3.

          Could this point to some glitch in the installers for the nightlies? Could it be borking a registry key?

          Another thing to try for those having this issue..the fix from the good old days!
          Install the old SL 1.23 viewer. You dont ever have to run it, but just leave it installed. This usually fixes all SLURL woes.

          I used slurl proxy which can assign any viewer, or the proxy itself, to handle SLURLs coming from your browser. It seems to me that the new instance of Firestorm just isn't realizing that an instance of SLURL handler is already running.

          I also have an issue with this. Coming from maps or slurl http calls outside the viewer from Marketplace or blogs, another Firestorm viewer loads instead of opening the map or goto slurl winwdow in the currently open viewer.

          If I do NOT have Firestorm open at all and click a map. or slurl. Firestorm loads as it should, however, it does not load with the slurl requested but whatever I had previously selected at log in (last location or home) and takes me to those instead and nothing else opens after login indicating that the slurl info has been transmitted into Firestorm.

          I've been simply copying location and pasting into the location bar inside Firestorm to bypass this.

          On the Phoenix installer, there is an option to "Use this as a viewer for all SL URL's"
          This seems to have fixed most SLURL weirdness for Phoenix.
          Maybe something like this can be added to the FS installer also?

          I did some testing tonight and found that, in Linux, when a V1 viewer is registered to handle SLURLS then Firestorm functions as expected when a SLURL is clicked.

          I confirmed this as well by altering my etc/handle_secondlifeprotocol.sh to execute snowglobe (with full path), and I could again get a place profile in Firestorm.

          I've attached my copy of the handler script.

          I have tested this in Windows, by installing Viewer 1.23, and as long as firestorm(xyz).exe is NOT the executable that receives the SLURL, everything works as expected. As soon as the external SLURL from a web browser is passed directly to Firestorm, a second instance will open.

          I assigned SLURL proxy as default, and IN SLURL proxy I assigned Linden Viewer 1.23, and it works fine. SLURL proxy calls secondlife.exe and passes the slurl as param, which then checks if an instance of secondlife is running, and sends the slurl to the running instance of Firestorm.

          Suspect something something was branded to Firestorm when it shouldn't have been, either at the 2.6 autobuild merge or shortly after.

          Removed the "patch attached" checkbox because it's not a complete fix.

          If a self-compiler would like to help, see if this behavior can be duplicated at revision changeset 18375 ( 07f65b6181ed ) and let us know.

          Didn't phoenix have a separate executable for SL-URLs? Would be easy to just associate the secondlife// URLs with such a program in Firefox.

          Compiling at the moment (like usual, I often check jira at that time), will test as soon as it ends.

          Plus, in the case I am not using a desktop environment (and/or g/dconf borks), to what file do I have to point Firefox to? the firestorm binary or the "handle slurl" script?

          The most reliable workaround for now is to install the old SL 1.23 viewer. You can download this from the bottom of the page here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers
          You dont need to run the viewer & login. You just need it installed on your system.

          I confirm the problem is there for Firestorm.

          Each time trying to open a slurl a new firestorm window will open.

          Installed the 1.23 second life version but I needed to choose to open the slurl with the old sl 1.23 viewer. Then it works. If trying to open it with firestorm it still opens a new firestorm window.

          it appears that firefox is not recognising that firestorm is running, and tries to launch another instance of the program. could we have a workround that's a little less technical than 'reinstall 1.23'

          Happens with latest released versions of firifox (must be round about 8 by now) and firestorm (3.2.2)

          I found the cause of the issue, but I need Arrehns assessment first:

          Basically, http://hg.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix-firestorm-lgpl/rev/bab7968248c9 did make the issue worse. Armin apparently moved the initialization of sStartupSLURL from LLAppViewer::initConfiguration() lines 2736-2743 to LLStartup because of the grid manager. In LLStartup, now only sStartSLURLString is initialized.

          // The gridmanager doesn't know the grids yet, only prepare
          // parsing the slurls, actually done when the grids are fetched
          // (currently at the top of startup STATE_AUDIO_INIT,
          // but rather it belongs into the gridmanager)
          if(clp.hasOption("url"))
          {
          	LLStartUp::setStartSLURLString((clp.getOption("url")[0]));
          }
          else if(clp.hasOption("slurl"))
          {
          	LLStartUp::setStartSLURLString(clp.getOption("slurl")[0]);
          }

          In line 2842, sStartupSLURL is checked and if it is valid, it is send to the already running viewer instance.

          if (LLStartUp::getStartSLURL().isValid() &&
          	(gSavedSettings.getBOOL("SLURLPassToOtherInstance")))
          {
          	if (sendURLToOtherInstance(LLStartUp::getStartSLURL().getSLURLString()))
          	{
          		// successfully handed off URL to existing instance, exit
          		return false;
          	}
          }

          Since sStartupSLURL now isn't properly initialized, it's empty, thus the SLURL command is not handed over and you end up with a running second instance.

          @Arrehn: Did your presumed fix work at all? IMHO this couldn't have worked at all if FS is the only viewer installed on the system. It will only work if another viewer is installed that will be invoked when opening an SLURL and then hand over the SLURL to FS.

          Maybe we need to move the SLURL handover check also to LLStartup, something like this:

          	if (STATE_AUDIO_INIT == LLStartUp::getStartupState())
          	{

          		// parsing slurls depending on the grid obviously
          		// only works after we have a grid list
          		// Anyway this belongs into the gridmanager as soon as
          		// it is cleaner

          		if(!LLStartUp::sStartSLURLString.empty())
          		{
          			LLStartUp::setStartSLURL(LLStartUp::sStartSLURLString);
          		}

          		//RN: if we received a URL, hand it off to the existing instance.
          		// don't call anotherInstanceRunning() when doing URL handoff, as
          		// it relies on checking a marker file which will not work when running
          		// out of different directories

          		if (LLStartUp::getStartSLURL().isValid() &&
          			(gSavedSettings.getBOOL("SLURLPassToOtherInstance")))
          		{
          			if (LLAppViewer::instance()->sendURLToOtherInstance(LLStartUp::getStartSLURL().getSLURLString()))
          			{
          				// successfully handed off URL to existing instance, exit
          				return false;
          			}

          This is still broken in 24336 on Win7 64-bit. I uninstalled the last beta release then installed 24336. I also have the latest release of Phoenix installed. SLURLs are very broken and always fire up another instance of Firestorm. I do have SLURL proxy installed and any combination of settings makes no difference, I always get a second copy of Firestorm. Works fine in Phoenix if I have that set as my default SLURL handler. Please please please fix this as I make very heavy use of slurls every day Does anyone have any kind of hack to make this work? This is a showstopper for me, I'll need to go back to Phoenix if this is really broken, it's just too much hassle to copy and paste slurl after slurl after slurl, ugh.

          Someone else I just asked is having the same problem, so it's not just me.

          If I uncheck "Allow Multiple Viewers" and click a slurl I get an error that Firestorm is already running.

          This is a real problem for people that sell things on the marketplace, people will just give up if slurls do weird things like this, and they won't understand how to get the secondlife:// address and copy and paste it into their chat window or that they can even do that.

          Neither of those fixes will work in this case. The best workaround for now is to install the old SL 1.23 viewer. You dont need to login with it, just having it installed is enough. You can download Viewer 1.23 from the bottom of the page here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Alternate_Viewers
          Your SLURLS will then behave properly in Firestorm & all other viewers.

          when u have installed surl proxy, the default handler should be the surlproxy, as recommended. But, then in the Window, choose another viewer as default viewer, than the one u are using. If the LM should open in fs, choose phoenix or some other viewer as default viewer.

          Hello I gave up on Firestorm beta some months back because of this very issue and went back to phoenix. SLURL worked great after I did a complete clean install of phoenix removing all viewers. NOW because I am sure eventually ALL viewer 1 versions will go away I go back to FINAL release of Firestorm.... guess what? So i come here hopping to find out some answer. I will try some of things mentioned here and hope I can get SLURL back. Let me tell you going for a new linden home and not having SLURL is a pain. Thank god for the map!
          I do hope this problem can be resolved.. I really really really do not want to default to Linden viewer 3.....please

          Broke SLURL when i upgraded to 24336. worked fine on 24179. Uninstalled everything, scrubbed win 7 registry and deleted all reference to all viewers anywhere on HD, install 24179, now SLURLdoesnt work. Installed SL 1.23 , no change, installed older version of PHx, no change. Hope the next release really fixes it.

          Yes, Im afraid LL have removed the 1.23 download recently. There will be a maintenance release of Firestorm very soon where this bug is fixed.

          This problem still exists in Firestorm 3.3.0 (24880) Feb 6 2012 20:10:16 (Firestorm-Release) under Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit Service Pack 2 (Build 6002). I have tried using Google Chrome 17.0.963.46 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421.

          At this point, it seems to be restricted to malformed or misunderstood and non-location SLURLs. Normal SLURLs seem to be handled correctly. I came across this list of URLs with different parameters and formatting. I think it was meant to test against the internal browser, but I tested with an external browser anyway.

          Case 1 - Small early startup window flickers, but nothing else happens:
          secondlife:// (no location)

          Case 2 - Small early startup window flickers, working Places window opens in currently active Firestorm session:
          secondlife://De%20Haro (No trailing /)
          secondlife://De%20Haro/ (trailing /)
          secondlife://De%20Haro/123/45/67] (xyz all set)
          secondlife://De%20Haro/10 (should clamp to 10,128)

          Case 3 - Small early startup window flickers, unusable Places window opens in currently active Firestorm session:
          secondlife://app.floater.html.help
          secondlife://app/agent/0e346d8b-4433-4d66-a6b0-fd37083abc4c/about (Two slash (//) link, should not work)

          The note about the double-slash was not mine, it was in the original HTML file, but we'll come back to that.

          Case 4 - Second Firestorm session starts:
          secondlife://De%20Haro/-10/-10 (should clamp to 0,0)
          secondlife:///app/agent/0e346d8b-4433-4d66-a6b0-fd37083abc4c/about (Kelly Linden)
          secondlife:///app/group/00005ff3-4044-c79f-9de8-fb28ae0df991/about (The Prancing Pony)
          secondlife:///app/bogus/junk (bogus URL)
          secondlife:///app/event/700727/about (Treasure Hunt at Crucial)
          secondlife:///app/classified/00128854-c36a-5649-7ca6-5dfaa7514ab2/about (Tans Place Art)
          secondlife:///app/parcel/0000060e-4b39-e00b-d0c3-d98b1934e3a8/about (Choerom PROSA)
          secondlife:///app/floater/self/close (Close this floater)
          secondlife:///app/balance/request (Refresh the L$ balance)

          I observed two things... First off, among the SLURLs that were (mostly) valid locations, the ones with the negative values did not work. Could this be on account of the hyphens?

          Secondly, the URLs with the three-slashes after the secondlife: protcol marker can all be modified to have only two slashes. If you do so, they move from Case 4 to Case 3. There's a comment in what I've labelled from Case 3, indicating that two-slash URLs should not work at all. I presume this relates to the internal browser the list was created to test against, but may be it points towards the problem?

          To finish off this round of testing, I reinstalled Phoenix Viewer 1.5.2 (1225) Aug 22 2011 11:24:40 (Phoenix Viewer Beta) over itself. It did not change the results of any of these tests.

          Those SLURLS are from the LL SLURL test page, you can bring up from Develop -> UI -> Media browser test or here http://secondlife.com/app/search/slurls.html

          V3 actually fails LL's own test SLURLS. Those have been wonky ever since V2. That test page has never been updated to reflect changes made in V2.

          I just installed 4.0.1.27000 and the bad secondlife:///app/agent behavior is back. secondlife:// slurls work fine. Clicking on the app/agent link in the test page in the comment above causes a new instance of Firestorm to launch. I really really really depend on these links working, ugh.

          With the last release I installed the old 1.23 viewer as a workaround, which seems to have no effect now.

          You can reproduce this manually by running this (replace your program files directory as appropriate): "C:\Program Files (x86)\Firestorm-Release\Firestorm-Release.exe" --channel "Firestorm-Release" --settings settings_firestorm-release_v4.xml -url secondlife:///app/agent/0e346d8b-4433-4d66-a6b0-fd37083abc4c/about

          That opens up a new instance.
