      Description

In Preferences > Chat, unchecking the Group Chats checkbox under Enable incoming chat Popups, does not stop me from getting random group chat IMs. I am joined to 38 groups at this time. One of the reasons I love Phoenix that is can block annoying group chat IMs. For me this is a show stopper for me being able to adopt the use of Firestorm, as I find group chat IMs extremely disturbing. I am sure many others feel the same about group chat IMs as well.

Can you log into the LL viewer and confirm if this occurs there as well? Thanks

I just logged into LL Viewer 2.5.1 and in preferences > chat, under the heading of Enable incoming chat popups, I have the group chat box unchecked, and I just received an IM from a random group.

Ok, so this is a LL bug, I'll mark it for fix in future, we'll keep an eye on Linden upstream viewer fixes.

It may not be completely a bug on the LL side of things. With the LL viewer the focus for incoming new IMs is the popups at the bottom right, the whole IM window thing is designed to be always there in the side bar as the design philosophy for the LL viewer almost as an after thought (the major flaw with the 2.x LL viewer is that it is designed with the idea of taking focus away from communications).

The title does say 'Enable incoming chat popups', it does not say anything about blocking the IMs in the IM window, so maybe it's a matter of differences in idea, as the Firestorm viewer is more focused on the traditional IMs being focused on the window behavior. Thus it is likely that there needs to be a separate feature in the Firestorm viewer which blocks group IMs from appearing in the IM window.

In a sense it is similar to the whole "reset cache" thing that actually only reset the cache to the default position and did not do what was expected, a difference in idea between LL and what most people expect something to do.

We have actually fixed the cache issue as well as added other abilities in that page similar to Phoenix. I agree though, this should be handled differently, we'll definitely look into it, however it's lower priority than some of our other items atm. Thanks for taking the time with this!

Thank you for looking into it. It is something I feel very strongly about. Actually back in the Emerald days it was the reason I switched from the LL viewer to Emerald. The thing that always always bugged me the most in SL was all those random group IMs appearing, stressed me out a lot. I enjoy my peace of mind on the 1.x Phoenix viewer thanks to the block group IMs feature, and would never switch to a viewer for full time use that did not have this feature.

I agree that this is a much needed feature. It is not fixed in the current beta.

I am still having trouble with this. I checked the group profile settings and my settings under preferences. I do not have group ims enabled on either places. I am on Phoenix Firestorm v4.4.2.34167 and I had done a clean install when I upgraded.

I continue to have a problem with this issue. I switched to the beta release and it still continues. I've tried everything possible under the sun, and moon! It is probably the thing that annoys me the most out of any other bug since I paid to be in the groups and don't want to drop them, but would like to not have the constant chatter.
