[BUG-4882] [ MAINT-3629] Full bright objects render wrongly when ALM is enabled when using a Hazy windlight.

    Details

    • Type: Bug
    • Status: Open
    • Priority: Major
    • Resolution: Unresolved
    • Affects Version/s: Phoenix Firestorm 4.6.1, Phoenix Firestorm 4.6.2
    • Component/s: Rendering
    • Environment:
    • SL Avatar Name:

      Description

      Visited the Wastelands sim. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Fort%20Stygian/42/170/69
Set windlight to Alchemy Immortalis - Foggy Morning.
Tried various graphics settings including ultra high and low resolution, but got same problems at all settings. Namely, some objects appeared to be full bright and "pop" though the mist regardless of distance even though they do not appear so in previous version of Firestorm. Animated prims that emit light such as fires/flames not only did not appear to be giving off light but also they showed up as full bright and were not affected by the mist settings in Windlight. Such objects showed up highly visible from a distance destroying illusion of distance created by fog/mist. Almost zero reflected/ambient light. Glow did not seem to be working on any setting. See attached photos. The top image is from my previous 4.4.2 interface, the bottom image is from the 4.6.1 interface in each case.

On my system, this problem only reproduces when Advanced Lighting model is enabled in Preferences -> Graphics.

Same problem reproduces on Viewer 3: Second Life 3.7.3 (287491)

Probably a change that came with materials.

Ahhh I think this is https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-4882 - 'Full bright' objects behave wrong with Windlight on

          Simple repro:

          • Set windlight to Alchemy Immortalis - Foggy Morning or another hazy windlight (Foggy works okay on the official viewer).
          • Rez Cube 1 and set it to full bright.
          • Rez cube 2 and set it to have colour black, 0.3 glow and full bright.
          • Cam away from the cubes and observe how they render with ALM enabled and disabled.
