I get this crash consistently at this one place http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Nina/133/110/126 . I can last about 10 mins there from login, so Im unsure if its an out of memory crash, I doubt it.

Well, sorry you are having this trouble folks but so am I, so at least I am not alone. It started after I had been logged in for several hours and had teleported to and from several places to test it. Finally, I landed in a heavy traffic sim to check some Meeroos because many other people were there and found the viewer extremely slow in loading the textures with the vast majority being and staying grey. I lasted approximately 10 minutes then it gradually got slower until I was logged out and THEN I kept getting either the above advisory pic supplied by Rug or two at once both claiming very similar memory problems. (all pics supplied)
I then installed version 24179 and that one provided instant entertainment from the second one logs in. I have since deleted that version but now version 24336 will only last a few minutes max after log-in before eventually freezing and giving me a photographic memento of the occasion.(Please see enclosed pics.) I have reverted to 1185 as my stable viewer

Siggy, if you are getting this logging in, please can you try disabling VBO from the login screen.
Go to Viewer -> Preferences -> Graphics -> Hardware settings -> Untick enable streamed VBO's & untick Enable open GL vertex buffer objects -> Apply/Ok
          Then login.

Pleas let us know if this helps at all.

          Hey Whirl
I never have the Streamed VBO's enabled so that can't be it. I have however always had the GL vertex buffer enabled without any problems. What I did after the crash with login earlier was log my self in at another location. Which did allow me to login without crashing and then went to my own place where it wouldn't let me login before. Been online since without problems.

Isn't it weird that something works fine for so long and then all of a sudden we have to disable things to have things work? I'm the kind of person that does not play with setting, buttons, and switches once things work fine to make sure whenever things do go crap I'm not to blame lol.

Can repro that crash there consistently within a few mins( yeah I know my DD is too high for mainland).
However... Disabling streamed VBO's & open GL vertex buffer objects, I seem Ok there. Got bored after 20 mins though & relogged. Ill see how long I can stay with VBO off.
Its definitely a memory issue in my case, but VBO seems to make it worse.

Just to note also, Ill login using about 1.2 gig RAM because I have a 96k inventory, which doesnt help
The alts with no inventory will login using only 400Mb

I cleared my cache as suggested by Wolf loonie and since then I have not had this issue again. I also disabled the VBO, my GL vertex buffer was already disabled. WhileI was in there I also disabled the anistropic filtering. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see if it happens again.

I have a similar issue, but it's not the same error message. If I spend more than a few minutes in the Abbotts sim I get this error and a crash to desktop.

          ERROR: llrender/llvertexbuffer.cpp(493) : LLVertexbuffer::validateRange: Bad vertex buffer draw range: [61440, 65535] vs 65535

I turned off VBO and HTTP (separately and together) with no luck. The only difference was a hard crash with no warning with those options disabled, as opposed to a dialogue box if they're off.

I'm experiencing this more and more frequently as well. It seems particularly fast, every 3 to 5 minutes, in locations with 20+ avatars nearby.

Reducing the size of the Viewer Texture Memory Buffer setting seems to have helped some.

Same problem here, yesterday for the first time. I crashed and tried to log back in, and immediately after logging in and seeing the "your clothes get loaded" window, the error popped up. No chance to get back in again, even after trying several times. Only thing that helped was to clear my cache... But I'm not willing to do that before every login now... sighs

Switching to version 3.2.1 did not help with the crashing while in crowded areas; and I still received the same errors.

However; reducing graphics setting to the standard "Low" settings seems to have not only stopped the crashing, but my FPS has doubled in all areas that I usually visit, in both mostly empty and crowded areas.

I still get this message already during logging in!!

This is really getting enervating... I installed FS completely new just yesterday, just to try to avoid this message. It was a clean install. First login worked fine... And today, the same thing as during the last weeks. I log in, and while getting the message "your clothes are still loading, etc...." this message (vertex buffer, etc...) appears and I crash. So I have to clear cache again, just to be able to log in. And I'm not willing to do this every day now... Please help with this issue, it's really annoying.

Hi Janice, please can you paste in all your system information from Help -> About Firestorm.
Is it only this error you get at login, not any others eg) FIRE-4034: llimage/llimage.cpp (244) LLImageBase::getData: "bad memory allocation for the image buffer!"?

          For me helped the following:

Installing the latest driver for my graphic-card and installing the phoenix app-fix.

Never had that vertex buffer crash ever since... Might be worth a try for you too.

I received the same error today, 3 times, only when I was trying to remove items from my Linden hovel, er, home to be able to return to a basic membership. Here's the message I get:

ERROR: llrender/llvertexbuffer.cpp(1488) : LLVertexBuffer::mapVertexBuffer: memory allocation for vertex data failed.

Using Firestorm release v3.3.0.24880 on a Windows 7 AMD dual core desktop with 4GB memory and 1.5TB hard drive space. Firestorm worked like a charm at the other sims I was working on, just not my Linden home one. Hope this gets resolved soon!

ETA: When I returned with the OpenGL and VBO settings unchecked, I got a different error:

ERROR: llrender/llvertexbuffer.cpp(1484): LLVertexBuffer::mapVertexBuffer: glMapBuffer returned NULL (no vertex data).

Hi there - I have just installed FS 4, for the first time - so it was a "CLEAN" installation.

I have been knocked a few times and today received this messaged...

We are sorry, but Firestorm has crashed and needs to be closed. If you see this issue happening repeatedly, please contact our support team and submit the following message:

ERROR: llrender/llvertexbuffer.cpp(1512):LLVertexBuffer::memory allocation for vertex data

          failed

I have done the following... Unticked Enable streamed VBO's & unticked Enable open GL vertex buffer objects

I have to say this happened when I went to such a lag infested Sim that I couldn't move... Teleported back to my home and then received the above message.

Gweneth Lange asked me to lodge this error with you.

          Thank you

That bad memory allocation thingy is still here in 27433. The viewer is somewhat unforgiving what with camming around, it seems. Even at DD 96m, worse at larger DD.

Yes I'm still getting this problem while I cam around in a crowded area. at the bottom right of the screen it'll say out of texture memory and then I get that pop-up.

You may want to fix the bug on Preference / General / EXTRAS... I couldn't get mouselook and was advised to check extras. It worked. Only thing is I got the web page for profiles instead of the normal profile page and I couldn't click onto a YouTube link someone sent to me inside SL (which I could do previously). After unchecking Extras, it worked again.

Thank you for FS4.1.1. However, I am having a problem in that my Group List (The Groups I belong to), is a terrible colour and a very small font. I can't change this. You have a colourset for the Friends' List but not for the Group List. I have asked in Group Chat if anyone knew how to change the colour and also looked on the web. Found nothing. Even the previous version was a decent colour and legible.

I am having this issue on the Firestorm 4.3.1 (31155) Dec 2, 2012 with Havok support. It happens at one location, a heavily populated club which I miss terribly! Is there an answer how to fix it?

Cat, what is the location that does this for you? I crash regularly in Wolf's Wood

One possible workaround I'm trying now is a debug setting, MeshMaxConcurrentRequests. I set this to double its default value, 64 in my case. Last night I was on for more than 10 hours and did not crash, but I don't know if I found a temporary solution or if the conditions just weren't bad enough.

Thanks for the help, Sir. I was able to remain at House of V, the problem spot in my SL, a very busy club (most times 50+ avis dancing)for almost an hour. I crashed when I cammed someone, even with the meshmaxconcurrentrequests set at 64. I am still happy that I can at least go to the club now.

hi ... and add me to the list of ||render/||vertexbuffer-cpp(1857):mapIndexBuffer: memory allocation for Index data failed. This has only happened to me with the most recent implementation of Firestorm, and always in a graphics intensive sim; it seems to happen most often when I make a fast camera move ormy camera happens to pan over an intensive scene (lots of avatars, motion or very detailed graphics.

being a neophyte to the coding world, I must also admit most of this thread went over my head! But its an annoying issue, I crashed 5 times last night.

i hope folks you smarter folks can fix this - thanks!

I can't go into a crowded sim without getting this message, so when I crash I go to clear cache. Attached is a screenshot of the folder, and it appears that files are landing outside the folders...sometimes over 1gb after a session.

To clarify, these files are below the Object Cache and Texture Cache folders.

          @Chelsea,

Those files in your cache are normal. The dsf files are sound files and the db2.x files are inventory cache.
You can limit the size of your cache folder from Preferences -> Network & cache -> Cache size.

This also occurs in Phoenix Firestorm 4.4.0 and Phoenix Firestorm 4.4.1, however they do not seem to be listed under "Affects Versions".

For me this error did not occur in Phoenix Firestorm 4.3.1 or any older version.
